Upcoming and important events:
Monday, October 1- Teacher Work Day, no school for students
Tuesday, October 2-4- Sagehen
Sunday, October 14- Pumpkin Patch
Homework:
Students will usually have homework Monday through Thursday. Students should write their assignments daily in their planner.
Computers/Tablets:
Your student has been assigned a Chromebook for use during this school year. We will be doing many assignments and activities using the Chromebook. Students are responsible for the personal care of their gadgets, the school is not responsible for damaged or lost pieces.
Communication:
The best way to reach me is via email: kflynn@ttusd.org. I will respond to your email within twenty-four hours.
Early Out:
Please give your child a note to bring to school with the time you would like to meet your child at the office to sign him/her out (or send me an email before school starts). With a note first thing in the morning, I can give your child the work he/she will miss. Please do not call the office during the day in reference to an early out; communicate directly with me via a hand written note or email. It is greatly appreciated, especially on Minimum Days.
Absence:
If your child is absent from school, please call the office and let them know. I will work with your child when he/she returns as far as missed work. When a child is sick, I want him/her to rest and recover.
Independent Study:
If your child is going to miss five or more days from school, please stop by the office and request an Independent Study form at least two weeks in advance of your departure. Once you sign the form, please give it to me. I can then organize a packet of school work for your child to have while he/she misses school. Once your child returns to school, please have him/her bring in all of his/her assignments as well as the Independent Study form. This is a nice opportunity for your child and family to travel if needed or desired, and your child will not return to school far behind in his/her school work.
How you can help:
For your child:
*Make sure your child reads every night. Ask him/her questions about the story. What is happening? Why?
What would happen if____ happened? Get them to understand and wonder about the story.
* Make sure s/he gets plenty of sleep and is not over-scheduled.
* Provide a healthy breakfast, snack, and lunch, whether it be from home or school.
* Return forms as soon as possible.
* Compliment your child on work well done. Give them a hug. Show them love. As parents, we are the last
person our child sees and hears from before coming to school. Let them come to school happy knowing you care!
There is research that proves happy children learn more and retain information longer when they feel good
about themselves and what they can do.
For the class:
*Chaperone/ drive on field trips.
*Volunteer to do Harvest of the Month.
*Come in to class to read or to play a math game with a child or small group. E-mail me if you are interested in this.
*Provide healthy snacks. We always have kids who are hungry.
For the school:
*Join PTO - It's once per month
*Get involved in School Site Council, ELAC, Pumpkin Patch, Walk-a-thon, or any school-sponsored event.
*Positive talk - Talk about the great things happening here at Truckee Elementary when you are out in the
town. Be a positive role model!
